Recent Paintings by Elaine Spatz-Rabinowitz
My work uses the rough materiality of plaster relief, embedded and intertwined with bits of imagery painted in oil, as a metaphor for the geography of political violence. I cast the supports for my paintings using Hydrocal mixed with other materials. The casting process is explosive and unpredictable; the painting process regains control and imposes visual order. The work is neither abstract nor literally narrative.
